About Dr. Wally

"Dr. Wally" is a columnist, commentator and speaker. His columns and commentaries on work and workplace issues are carried in the Richmond Times Dispatch, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and syndicated to fifteen other newspapers. He can be heard on Public Radio, WCVE 89.1 FM, on Monday at 7:19 am and on Saturday at 8:19 am.

He has published over three hundred academic and trade articles and two books, SPEAKING OF WORK and WHAT EVERY MANAGER NEEDS TO KNOW (coauthored) and a recording (CD and Tape) "MESSAGES FOR SELF." His first video was "The Metaphor of the Frog" and his latest video, "Working SMART" was released in November 2003.

As a management consultant, conference and convention speaker and workshop leader, he focuses on developing people through work. His speeches and workshops include: The Metaphor of the Frog, Working SMART, Building Relationships, Strategic Thinking, Diversity Is An Asset, Transforming Groups into Teams, Leading Change, Enhancing Your Communication Skills and Creating Customer and Employee Loyalty.

He serves on the Board of Directors of Virginia Amateur Sports, Virginia Recreation and Parks Society, Better Business Bureau of Richmond and Building Bridges International. He has served on the Boards of Virginia Special Olympics, Virginia One-to-One and Richmond Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Dr. Johnston's experience ranges from the "real world" to the academic environment. Prior to earning the degree of Doctor of Business Administration from The George Washington University, he held managerial positions in the banking industry. After twenty-five years as a faculty member at the School of Business of Virginia Commonwealth University, he was awarded Emeritus status in 1996.
