Make Your Own Plan

We keep hearing that women are not getting their share of the pie. Far be it for me to argue the fact.

What I do suggest is for all individuals to make a plan for their own growth and development. Success is individual and we all make choices as to what we want to accomplish. Individual failures are seldom the fault of others. Of course, it is easy to assign blame!

It is the blame that I think needs to take a back seat. If individuals are not getting what they want, they need to take actions directed toward where they want to go. Blame, if given too much attention, becomes an emotional roadblock.

Successful individuals are so because of what they have done to reach their goals. Their efforts were directed toward the outcomes they desired. Others may serve as mentors or provide competition. But success remains in the domain of the individual.

Look at how we value the effort of those who have failed but try again and again. If they reach a successful point, we attribute that to their hard work. Past failures, in most cases, take a back seat to current successes.

A good model for most people who have goals is the sports model of having a game plan. Teams always have plans to meet their goals. When they are accomplished, the team wins. When they are not being met, changes are made. The team redirects its own behaviors in order to accomplish its goals.

All individuals have the capicatity to set goals and make plans. When faced with problems, blame is a distraction. Focusing on redirection is what will lead to successful accomplishment of goals.
