Questions to Dr. Wally - Rude Boss

Question:
The other day my boss called me "fat." I'm not kidding. He said that as part of a tirade against me in front of other people. Not to sound defensive (even though I am), but I’m not fat. I’m within a healthy weight range for someone my age and height, maybe not skinny but certainly not fat. It was insulting, embarrassing and uncalled for! How should I handle it? Medium

Dr. Wally's Answer:
Your boss was out of line.  His behavior could be considered "hostile." The question to you is whether you want to call him on it, and if so, how to do it. Is his recent behavior part of a pattern? If so, get to the HR people quickly.  If you see it as a one- time incident, casually let him know you feel the comments were and are unrelated to the work. Be ready, however, to act quickly if he does it again. Once might be a rude mistake, but twice is a pattern, unprofessional and needs to be reported!
